No Failure, No Story

Success after struggle tastes so sweet. But both are constant and come in cycles. The tough climb to success only begins the journey to your next goal. I write this the day after loosing a boxing match. All I feel is a deeper motivation, understanding and drive to improve. A deeper understanding of myself. Would a win have left me in that position ? I think not, a loss isn't a loss it's a lesson.
Losing makes you think in ways victory doesn't. No Risk, No Glory. No Failure, No Story. This is the mindset necessary for success. Although, it's still a struggle to maintain and believe it. It's a daily choice to be The Hero in your own story.
Think of every hero in any film or book you've read. They're always the character faced with the most challenges and sacrifice. Often death and destruction before they reach their happy ending. This is what you must prepare that part of your character to face. You must also accept the side of yourself which feels weakness and constantly calls you to make the easy choices. It is part of us all. We are our own heaven and our own hell too. Don't resist, the more you relax, the more you allow.
My understand here was founded in a great book given to me by my Dad. Learning To Breathe by climbing legend Andy Cave. This book details Andy's ascent from a disillusioned world of dirt and darkness in the Yorkshire coal mines to the harrowing peaks of climbing glory. A gripping tale written with class and humor showcasing the honest reality of life on a knife edge.
The crescendo finds Andy and climbing partner Brendan Murphy in 1997, in India, battling up the North Face of a 6864 Meter peak called Changabang. Their victory of this mighty, white, sharks fin of a mountain came at a terrible cost. During their descent, Brendan, feeling the strongest of the group volunteers to set up the belay to descend one of the final pitches. A hero's choice which was testament to his character and the great man he was. However, this choice would ultimately cost him his life as he was swept away in an avalanche leaving a helpless Andy watching.
This speaks to the true cost of the hero's choice which you must be prepared for. The other parts of your character left, like Andy, to make the final climb from darkness to light.
